See The Mandalorian and Grogu stars next to the characters they play
The Mandalorian and Grogu launched on Disney+ in the UK and US this week, prompting fresh comparisons between stars Pedro Pascal, Jeremy Allen White and Sigourney Weaver and the characters they play in the Star Wars sequel.

Pascal steps back into the helmet
Pedro Pascal has voiced Din Djarin since The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ in 2019. He told Good Morning America that bringing the character to cinemas “was my secret wish from the beginning,” said Pascal.
He added that playing Din Djarin for seven years amounts to his longest creative relationship with any role to date.

White brings Rotta the Hutt to life
Jeremy Allen White, best known for The Bear, voices Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s adult son. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his casting in 2024.
White told Empire he studied Jabba’s scenes in Return of the Jedi and learned “a little bit of Huttese,” said White, to prepare for the role.
Weaver debuts as Colonel Ward
Sigourney Weaver was among the first stars confirmed for the film, with her casting reported by Deadline in August 2024. Her character, Colonel Ward, leads the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers alongside Din Djarin and Grogu.
Weaver told USA Today that she has long admired women in the armed services. “I’ve always wanted to play someone like that,” said Weaver.
Coyne and Willig round out the cast
Jonny Coyne reprises Lord Janu, an Imperial warlord he originated in season three of The Mandalorian. Matthew Willig, a former NFL offensive lineman turned actor, plays Janu’s henchman, Hogsbreth.
Willig shared news of his casting on Instagram in March 2026, writing that the role helped him “fulfil a kids dream,” said Willig.
What UK viewers need to know
The Mandalorian and Grogu opened in UK cinemas on the same date as the US, according to Disney’s UK film page, which lists the film as rated 12A with a runtime of two hours and twelve minutes.
The film became available exclusively on Disney+ in the UK on 2 September, according to Disney+’s UK explore page, meaning UK subscribers can now stream it as part of their existing plan.

Box office so far
The film grossed $345.7 million worldwide during its cinema run, according to Variety, which reported that this made it the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film to date on a $165 million budget.
