BriefLedger is committed to producing accurate, independent, and trustworthy entertainment journalism. This page explains how we work, how we make editorial decisions, and what standards every piece of content on this site is held to.
If you have a question about our editorial practices not covered here, contact us at editorial@briefledger.co.uk
1. Who We Are
BriefLedger is a UK-based entertainment news and reviews publication covering movies, TV shows, music, gaming, sports, festivals, and daily puzzles. We are published by BriefLedger Media and registered in England and Wales.
Our editorial team is led by Lewis Calvert, Founder & Editor. Every article published on BriefLedger is written, edited, and fact-checked by a named human member of our team.
2. Editorial Independence
BriefLedger’s editorial decisions are made entirely independently of commercial considerations.
- Advertisers have no influence over what we cover, how we cover it, or what scores and verdicts we assign in reviews.
- No brand, studio, publisher, label, or PR agency can pay to receive positive coverage or to suppress negative coverage.
- Revenue from advertising and affiliate partnerships does not affect editorial content in any way.
- Our editorial team and commercial team operate separately. Editorial staff are never instructed to favour commercial partners.
If you believe we have failed to meet this standard, please contact us at editorial@briefledger.co.uk
3. Accuracy & Fact-Checking
We take accuracy seriously. Before publishing, every article on BriefLedger is checked against primary or credible secondary sources. Where we state facts — dates, figures, quotes, box office numbers, chart positions — we verify them.
Sources we rely on:
- Official studio, label, and publisher announcements
- BBFC and PEGI for UK age ratings
- Official UK box office data (BFI, Comscore)
- Official UK chart bodies (Official Charts Company)
- Direct quotes from named press and publicist materials
We do not publish rumours as facts. When we report on unconfirmed information, we clearly label it as unconfirmed, rumoured, or speculative.
4. Corrections Policy
We make mistakes. When we do, we fix them quickly and transparently.
Our process:
- Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are identified or reported to us
- A correction notice is added at the top of the affected article stating what was changed and when
- We do not silently delete or alter content to hide errors
- Significant corrections are noted clearly; minor typographical fixes do not require a correction notice
To report an error: Email editorial@briefledger.co.uk with the subject line “Correction” and include the article URL and the specific error. We aim to respond within 24 hours and correct confirmed errors within the same working day.
5. Disclosure Policy
Review Copies & Advance Screenings
BriefLedger regularly receives review copies of games, films, albums, and advance screening invitations from studios, publishers, labels, and PR agencies. This is standard practice in entertainment journalism.
- Every review where materials were provided will carry a disclosure note at the top: “Review copy provided by [company name]” or “Advance screening provided by [company name]”
- Receipt of review materials does not influence our scores, verdicts, or conclusions. We have and will continue to publish negative reviews of products received for free.
- We do not accept review copies in exchange for guaranteed positive coverage.
Press Passes & Event Access
When BriefLedger attends events, premieres, festivals, or expos using press credentials, this is disclosed within the relevant article.
Affiliate Links
Some articles on BriefLedger contain affiliate links — primarily to streaming services, cinema booking platforms, and retailers such as Amazon UK. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, BriefLedger may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.
- Affiliate links are always labelled with the note: “This article contains affiliate links” at the top of the article
- Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial recommendations. We only link to products and services we would genuinely recommend to our readers.
Sponsored Content
On rare occasions BriefLedger may publish sponsored content in partnership with brands. All sponsored content is:
- Clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or “Paid Partnership” at the top of the article
- Written to our editorial standards and factual accuracy requirements
- Kept separate from our independent editorial content
We do not publish sponsored content that contradicts our editorial positions or misleads our readers.
6. AI Content Policy
BriefLedger does not publish AI-generated articles.
- All content published on this site is written by named human members of our editorial team
- AI tools may be used for research assistance, transcription, or spell-checking, but the writing, judgement, and editorial voice in every article is human
- Reviews reflect the genuine first-hand experience of the named author — they watched the show, played the game, or attended the event
- We believe this commitment to human authorship is what our readers deserve and what honest journalism requires
7. Review Standards
Independence
All reviews on BriefLedger reflect the genuine opinion of the named author. Scores and verdicts are never negotiated with, or approved by, the subject of the review.
First-Hand Experience
Our reviewers personally watch, play, or listen to the content they review. We do not publish reviews based on trailers, press releases, or second-hand accounts. Where a review is based on a partial experience (e.g., an early access build of a game), this is stated clearly at the top of the review.
Scoring
Where we assign numerical scores, our scale is:
- 9–10: Essential. Outstanding in its category.
- 7–8: Recommended. Strong with minor flaws.
- 5–6: Mixed. Some merit, notable weaknesses.
- 3–4: Disappointing. Significant problems outweigh the positives.
- 1–2: Poor. Difficult to recommend in any circumstances.
Scores reflect the author’s assessment at time of publication. We may update reviews if significant patches, edits, or changes alter the product substantially, with a dated note explaining the update.
8. Headlines & Accuracy
BriefLedger does not use misleading, exaggerated, or clickbait headlines. Every headline on this site accurately reflects the content of the article it leads.
We do not use headlines that:
- Over-promise or sensationalise beyond what the article delivers
- Use “You Won’t Believe…” or equivalent manipulative phrasing
- Misrepresent the subject, tone, or conclusions of the article
9. Privacy & Data
BriefLedger complies with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We do not sell reader data to third parties. Our full Privacy Policy is available at briefledger.co.uk/privacy-policy/
10. Complaints
If you have a complaint about content published on BriefLedger that is not covered by our corrections process, please contact us:
📧 editorial@briefledger.co.uk Subject line: “Complaint — [Article Title]”
We take all complaints seriously and aim to respond within 3 working days.
