A24 Drops the First Trailer for Hugh Jackman’s The Death of Robin Hood
On April 22, 2026, A24 dropped the first official trailer for The Death of Robin Hood, and it is not the merry men version anyone grew up with. The tagline says it plainly: “He was no hero.”
Hugh Jackman leads the film as a bearded, aging Robin Hood haunted by a past filled with crime and murder. Think Logan, and not just because Jackman is rocking a massive beard and clothes that have seen better days. The comparison is apt enough that it will do a lot of the marketing work for them.

The Death of Robin Hood
The film is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, whose previous credits include Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. It’s based on the English folklore tale “Robin Hood’s Death,” which tells the story of the outlaw’s betrayal and demise at the hands of someone he trusted. According to Gold Derby, Sarnoski previously told Entertainment Weekly that the film is a reimagining that paints a complex portrait of the beloved outlaw.
The trailer opens with Robin Hood speaking to a mysterious woman about the stories people tell about him. “People speak of Robin Hood, telling stories. They’re all lies,” he says, before footage cuts to him dragging a victim to a shallow grave. So, yes. This one is going to sting.
Joining Jackman are Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) as the mysterious woman, Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) as Little John, Murray Bartlett (The Last of Us), and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place). Sarnoski shot the entire film on 35mm in Northern Ireland. That tracks with the aesthetic, the trailer looks like a painting that decided to get violent.
Jackman is also one of the film’s producers, alongside Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, and Alexander Black.
For UK audiences, Get Your Comic On confirmed that True Brit Entertainment has dated The Death of Robin Hood for UK cinemas on September 2, 2026, so there’s a full summer wait after the US opening, alas.
The Death of Robin Hood opens in US theaters on June 19, 2026. We’ll keep you posted on updates about The Death of Robin Hood as the project develops.
