War Machine 2 is officially in the works at NETFLIX.

War Machine 2 Is Officially Happening at Netflix

So, the good news is that War Machine hit 139 million views and cracked Netflix’s all-time most popular films list. The better news is that a sequel is officially in development.

According to The Wrap, which first broke the story, director Patrick Hughes is already heads down working on War Machine 2, with Alan Ritchson expected to reprise his role as Staff Sergeant ’81’. Hughes will co-write the script alongside James Beaufort and produce alongside Todd Lieberman, Alex Young, Greg McLean, and Rich Cook. Ritchson will also step up as a producer on the sequel.

War Machine 2

The original War Machine — a Lionsgate co-production — debuted on Netflix on March 6 and follows the final recruits of a grueling US Army Ranger selection who encounter a deadly, unimaginable threat during a jungle training exercise. That threat turns out to be killer robots. By the end of the film, Ritchson’s character is recruited into a global mission to stop more of them, which means the sequel practically wrote its own setup.

Deadline confirmed the sequel announcement alongside the viewership figures, noting the film currently sits at No. 10 on the all-time list with a shot at climbing to No. 9 before the 91-day measuring window closes. For UK fans, War Machine is streaming now on Netflix UK, where it’s been pulling strong numbers since its March debut.

Fan reaction has been enthusiastic — social media lit up with “Hell yeah” posts within hours of the announcement. Some viewers questioned whether the original needed a follow-up, but the ending made the answer pretty obvious to anyone who watched it through.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about War Machine 2 as the project develops.
