Magnum Foodus asks fans to fund one last stunt for its finale

Indie filmmaker Addison Binek has launched a Kickstarter to cover travel from Detroit to New York City, where he plans to shoot one final stunt with actor Bill Weeden for his food-stunt sequel Magnum Opus Presents: Magnum Foodus.

What is Magnum Foodus?

As Nerdbot’s Ada Blood first reported, Magnum Foodus grew out of Binek’s earlier project Magnum Opus: The .MOVie, a video diary shot largely on period-accurate formats through the 1990s and early 2000s as Binek and his friends performed increasingly dangerous stunts while growing up on camera. The sequel narrows that concept down to food, following members of the indie film community through events including GrossFest, Living Dead Weekend, and the final edition of Cinema Wasteland.

The Kickstarter listing itself describes the project as a multitude of indie filmmakers attempting “Jackass”-style food challenges of a stupid and disgusting nature. Featured segments include an actor eating undercooked hot dogs at GrossFest, a soda-chugging challenge at Cinema Wasteland, and a self-administered waterboarding stunt performed in a Spider-Man costume.

The film currently runs 23 segments across roughly 108 minutes and, according to Nerdbot, ends on what the site calls the “rainbow vomit scene.” Binek and Weeden are now teasing a bigger finish, with the only public clue so far being a photo of Weeden dressed as a baby.

The Kickstarter campaign

The fundraiser, titled “Magnum Foodus (Post-Production and Finishing Funds),” is seeking $500 to cover travel and finishing costs so Binek can film the new ending with Weeden in New York City. As of Screen & Story’s review on Tuesday, the Kickstarter page listed the project at roughly 72% funded with about 12 days remaining. When Nerdbot covered the story the previous day, the total stood at $315.

A UK angle

Neither Magnum Foodus nor its predecessor currently has a UK distributor, streaming date, or BBFC rating attached — this is a US-based Kickstarter project without confirmed UK release plans. UK audiences can, however, watch Magnum Opus: The .MOVie for free on YouTube, where Binek has made it available worldwide, alongside his earlier feature Psycho Ape, which streams on Tubi in the UK.
