Netflix Little House on the Prairie First Look Shows Promising Reboot

Netflix dropped a first-look teaser for its upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot, and — against all reasonable expectations, it doesn’t look bad. The series is slated to premiere July 9, 2026, and has already been renewed for a second season ahead of that debut. So Netflix has faith. The question is whether the rest of us should.

Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries) serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series, which follows Charles, his wife Caroline, and their daughters Laura and Mary as they leave Wisconsin to settle on the frontier. The official logline pitches it as “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.” CBS Studios and Anonymous Content are producing.

Leading the cast as Laura Ingalls is Alice Halsey, a 10-year-old actress fans may recognize from Lessons in Chemistry, where she played Brie Larson‘s daughter at just 7 years old. The role was originated by Melissa Gilbert, who was also 10 when she first stepped onto the prairie — so at least the casting math checks out.

Rounding out the Ingalls family: Luke Bracey as Charles (“Pa”), Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline (“Ma”), and Skywalker Hughes as Mary. Thosh Collins (IT: Welcome to Derry, Reservation Dogs) also joins the cast, along with Kowen Cadorath (SkyMed) and Rebecca Amzallag (Titans).

The teaser itself leans into the nostalgia without drowning in it. The original Little House on the Prairie book series has sold more than 73 million copies across more than 100 countries — and Nielsen clocked 13.25 billion minutes of viewing of the 1974 show in 2024 alone. That’s not a property you can afford to mess up. Alas, Netflix has a complicated track record on legacy IP, but the bones here look solid. Sonnenshine knows how to build ensemble drama, and the cast is doing more than going through the motions in what little the teaser shows.

Showrunner Sonnenshine told TV Insider: “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”

The full cast breakdown and teaser are available over at Netflix’s Tudum.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about Little House on the Prairie as the project develops. The series premieres July 9, 2026, on Netflix.
