Crunchyroll Reveals First Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Character Posters

Crunchyroll Reveals First Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Character Posters

LOS ANGELES — July 3, 2026 — Crunchyroll unveiled the first character posters for its anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends during a showcase at Anime Expo 2026, giving fans an early look at four samurai classes battling supernatural threats rooted in Japanese folklore.

TL;DR

  • Crunchyroll debuted new character art for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends at its Anime Expo 2026 panel on Friday.
  • The anime adapts the game’s co-op “Legends” mode, following four classes — Samurai, Hunter, Ronin and Assassin — rather than main-game protagonist Jin Sakai.
  • Director Takanobu Mizuno, writer Gen Urobuchi and character designer Takashi Okazaki lead the creative team.
  • The series is still on track for a 2027 exclusive premiere on Crunchyroll, which raised its UK subscription prices earlier this year.

The posters are the project’s first real visual proof since Crunchyroll, Sony Music, Aniplex and PlayStation Productions announced the adaptation in January 2025, signaling it has moved from a paper deal to an active production as several PlayStation franchises race toward anime and film adaptations.

“An exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style,” said Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll’s president, describing the project when it was first announced.

Legends Mode Gets Anime Treatment

Unlike the 2020 game, which centers on lone samurai Jin Sakai, the anime adapts Ghost of Tsushima’s cooperative multiplayer mode.

That mode pits squads of warriors against yokai and other supernatural threats drawn from Japanese mythology, rather than the historical Mongol invasion of the main story.

The newly revealed posters introduce the four playable classes as ensemble leads: Samurai, Hunter, Ronin and Assassin.

A full trailer has not yet been released.

Veteran Creative Team Takes Charge

Crunchyroll also confirmed the project’s key staff at the panel.

Takanobu Mizuno, who directed “The Duel” segment of “Star Wars: Visions,” is directing.

Gen Urobuchi — known for “Fate/Zero” and “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” — is handling series composition alongside Satoshi Maejima, with character designs from Takashi Okazaki of “Afro Samurai” fame.

Studio Kamikaze Douga is producing the animation, with HAYATE Inc. also credited on production.

What This Means for UK Fans

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is still set to stream exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.

UK viewers will need an active subscription: Crunchyroll’s Fan tier rose from £4.99 to £5.99 a month and its Mega Fan tier from £59.99 to £69.99 a year after a February 2026 price increase, which took effect for existing subscribers on their first renewal after March 2026.

No UK-specific release date, dub cast, or event has been confirmed.
