Amazon MGM Studios releases new Verity trailer starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson

Amazon MGM Studios released a full trailer Tuesday for Verity, the psychological thriller adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s best-selling novel, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, ahead of its October 2 theatrical release.

The trailer follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to finish the final novel in a series written by his wife, bestselling author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), according to Deadline. Verity has reportedly been unable to walk or talk since a car accident. Once inside the Crawford estate, Lowen becomes romantically entangled with Jeremy and discovers a manuscript that appears to reveal disturbing secrets about the family.

The official synopsis, shared by UPI, says Lowen “wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy” and struggles to separate fiction from reality as the assignment grows more dangerous.

Verity is based on Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name. The film is directed by Michael Showalter, known for The Idea of You, from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. Filming took place in New York City in 2025, and paparazzi photographed cast members shooting scenes near Grand Central Terminal, according to Yahoo Entertainment.

Hoover, who has sold more than 35 million books, said writing Verity was the most fun she has had on any of her novels. The author also worked on the film’s script alongside Antosca.
