RoboCop reboot series officially ordered by Amazon Prime Video

What the new series is about
The show keeps the core premise of Paul Verhoeven’s original film. A powerful technology company persuades a city to put a robotic officer on its police force, one built around the consciousness of a fallen cop, per the series’ official logline.
That framing has already drawn comparisons to Amazon’s own position as a tech giant, a parallel several outlets covering the announcement were quick to point out.
Who’s making it
Ocko, known for Lodge 49 and Pushing Daisies, serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett executive produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone co-executive producing and overseeing the project for the company.
Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, co-writers of the 1987 film, are also on board as executive producers, giving the reboot a direct line back to the original.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, said RoboCop is a franchise that has meant something to audiences for nearly four decades. Wan, for his part, said he has been a massive fan of RoboCop forever, and called the chance to bring it to television a dream.
A franchise that keeps coming back online
RoboCop debuted in theaters in 1987, directed by Verhoeven and starring Peter Weller as Officer Alex Murphy and Nancy Allen as Officer Anne Lewis. Two theatrical sequels followed, in 1990 and 1993, before a standalone reboot starring Joel Kinnaman arrived in 2014 to mixed reviews and modest box office.
Television has tried to revive the character before, with a short-lived 1994 live-action series, two animated shows, and the 2001 miniseries RoboCop: Prime Directives. More recently, Weller and Allen lent their voices and likenesses to the 2023 video game RoboCop: Rogue City, and the documentary RoboDoc landed on Screambox.
The project has been in the works since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, part of the streamer’s broader push to mine the studio’s back catalog, which also includes James Bond and Stargate.
What UK viewers need to know
Prime Video is already available in the UK as part of an Amazon Prime membership, priced at £8.99 a month or £95 a year. No premiere date has been set, and it’s not yet clear when production will begin or who will be cast.
