Peter Sarsgaard Joins The Last of Us Season 3 as Seraphite Leader Amon
The Last of Us has been quietly stacking its Season 3 ensemble, and now it has a new cult leader in the fold. Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman) has joined the show in a recurring role as Amon, a leader of the Seraphites cult — and notably, Amon does not appear in the games at all; he is an entirely new creation built for the show.
Sarsgaard is a two-time Emmy nominee, earning his first nod for the Hulu limited series Dopesick and his second for Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent. Not a bad résumé for a man about to lead a doomsday cult in post-apocalyptic Seattle.

Season 3 will reportedly be told from Kaitlyn Dever‘s Abby perspective rather than Bella Ramsey‘s Ellie, with the WLF — Abby’s faction — at war with the Seraphites for control of Seattle. So Amon and Abby are on a collision course, which should be fun for everyone. Well. Everyone watching from home.
The Last of Us Season 3
Sarsgaard isn’t the only new face joining the Seraphite side of the war. Clea DuVall (Argo, But I’m a Cheerleader) has also joined Season 3 as a Seraphite, while Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: No Way Home) comes aboard as Manny, taking over from Danny Ramirez due to scheduling conflicts. And Li Jun Li has been confirmed as Miriam, another original character and the mother of Yara and Lev.
Production is currently on a mid-shoot hiatus — believed to be around a month — due to the FIFA World Cup. Vancouver, where the series films, is one of the host cities for the tournament. UK fans should note that The Last of Us Season 3 is targeting a 2027 premiere on HBO and Sky Atlantic, with no confirmed UK date yet. Craig Mazin returns as sole showrunner, with Neil Druckmann not back for this batch of episodes. It is also, per Deadline, still planned to be the final season.
