Supergirl Sets Sept. 10 HBO Max Streaming Date for UK Viewers

DC Studios’ Supergirl will begin streaming on HBO Max in the UK on Thursday, Sept. 10, giving British subscribers on Standard or Premium plans their first at-home look at the DCU film after a rocky theatrical run.

Supergirl was DC Studios’ second theatrical release under James Gunn’s rebooted universe, and it landed far softer than 2025’s Superman. That gap puts extra weight on the streaming debut.

HBO Max, not cinemas, is now where the studio will find out whether Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El can hold an audience before she returns in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow. The date also lands less than six months after HBO Max’s own standalone launch in the UK and Ireland, making Supergirl one of the young platform’s first real tests of day-one blockbuster access outside theaters.

HBO Max announced that Supergirl arrives worldwide on Thursday, Sept. 10. An accompanying American Sign Language version, performed by Catalene Sacchetti, streams the same day.

A Saturday, Sept. 12 broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on the HBO linear channel is a U.S.-only appointment. UK subscribers have no equivalent broadcast slot and should stream the film through the app instead.

How Much It Costs In Britain

HBO Max UK runs four tiers: Basic with Ads at £4.99 a month, Standard with Ads at £5.99, ad-free Standard at £9.99 and Premium at £14.99.

Basic with Ads excludes titles still in their post-theatrical window, so watching Supergirl from launch day requires Standard or Premium. The service is available directly through the HBO Max app or via launch partners Sky and Prime Video.

Why This Streaming Date Matters

Supergirl reached theaters on June 26 and closed with $126.4 million worldwide against a reported $170 million to $186 million budget, a steep drop from Superman’s haul of more than $600 million a year earlier.

A streaming release just 76 days after the theatrical run is one of the faster turnarounds among recent Warner Bros. titles. Physical media — 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions — arrived Sept. 8, two days ahead of the streaming debut.

Age Rating And Content Guidance

According to the British Board of Film Classification, Supergirl carries a 12A certificate for moderate violence, threat and language.

The board’s notes point to fantastical fight scenes involving punches, kicks and bladed weapons, though injury detail stays minimal on screen.

UK Talent And Filming Locations

Sunderland-born actress Eve Ridley, 14, plays Ruthye, the alien companion who recruits Kara for an interstellar revenge mission.

Production filmed across England, including Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and locations in London, with additional filming in Scotland.

What Comes Next For Alcock

Alcock, 26, is already locked in as Kara Zor-El for Man of Tomorrow, the Superman sequel due July 9, 2027, after wrapping filming in August. David Corenswet returns as Superman in that film, reuniting the pair on screen.
