Today’s answer is OASIS. In its literal sense, an oasis is a fertile area in a desert environment, typically surrounding a natural spring or water source — a sanctuary amid an otherwise barren landscape. The word entered English from French and Latin, originating in the ancient Egyptian language.
The thematic hint pointed squarely at Oasis, the legendary Manchester rock band fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. One of the best-selling British groups of all time, Oasis defined the Britpop era of the 1990s with tracks such as Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, and Don’t Look Back in Anger. After their acrimonious split in 2009, the band reunited in 2024 to considerable fanfare — making this an especially timely Wordle choice.
The tricky part for many players today will have been the double S — one in position three, one at the end. Starting guesses heavy on S’s should have helped land at least one tile early.
