Sydney Sweeney Is Heading to Sleepy Hollow in New Gothic Thriller Hollow
Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid) is attached to star in Hollow, a feature film adaptation of writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer‘s debut novel. The novel won’t even hit shelves until fall 2027, and the movie package is already being shopped to studios. Because Hollywood doesn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
According to Deadline, Hollow is a bold reimagining of Washington Irving‘s 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told through the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel. Sweeney is set to play Van Tassel — not as a romantic prize caught between Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones, but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a high-concept reinvention of the classic.

Anderson Beer, who made her directorial debut with 2023’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, will write and helm the adaptation herself. Margot Robbie‘s LuckyChap Entertainment will produce alongside Beer through her Brew Lab banner and Sweeney through her newly formed Honey Trap production company. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, this will be Honey Trap’s first official film. Putnam — part of Penguin Random House and known for launching more bestsellers than any other publishing house — made a preemptive acquisition on the novel, pulling it off the market before it could go to auction.
UK audiences are already paying attention. Pearl & Dean flagged the project as one to watch, noting the film is shaping up as a strong theatrical prospect for British cinemas when it eventually surfaces — a gothic horror-thriller with the pedigree of LuckyChap behind it tends to travel well. No UK release date has been confirmed, as the studio search is still ongoing.
Sweeney is coming off the massive global success of The Housemaid, which surpassed $400 million at the worldwide box office. A sequel based on The Housemaid’s Secret is already set for 2027.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Hollow as the project develops.
