Ginger Snaps TV Series Is “Very Much a Hot Topic,” Says Director John Fawcett
On May 21, 2026, director John Fawcett confirmed what a lot of horror fans have been quietly hoping for: the long-gestating Ginger Snaps television adaptation is still alive. Fawcett confirmed the long-developing TV series is still alive, and original stars shared what they’d want to see.
The update came courtesy of an exclusive interview with Dread Central, timed to the franchise’s shiny new 4K release. Of course, no one’s signing on the dotted line yet — but for a project this long in development, “heat” is not nothing.

The project first surfaced in October 2020, when Deadline reported that Killing Eve producers Sid Gentle Films had partnered with original producers Copperheart Entertainment to develop a series, with Fawcett attached as executive producer and Anna-Maria Ssemuyaba set to write. Five and a half years later, there’s still no series order. Fawcett, however, says the project has a pulse.
“That is still very much a hot topic right now,” he told Dread Central. “It’s a passion project of mine… it’s a work in progress, but it’s been a long and winding road. There is some heat and some creative minds working on this as we speak.”

The original stars are cautiously on board too. Katharine Isabelle said she sees “a combination of both” when it comes to new and returning cast, adding that “there’s definitely more to be mined out of this story, out of the relationship of the girls.” Emily Perkins said she’d love to see where things go — before catching herself mid-thought when she remembered the fates of Brigitte and Ginger. So, the continuity questions are already complicated.
Ginger Snaps is a 2000 Canadian supernatural horror film directed by Fawcett, starring Perkins and Katharine Isabelle as death-obsessed teenage sisters whose bond is tested after Ginger is attacked by a werewolf and begins transforming in ways that mirror puberty, sexuality, and alienation. It spawned two sequels and became a bona fide cult classic — the kind of film that still gets programmed at horror festivals across the UK for good reason.
For UK fans, the good news is that Ginger Snaps is now available on 4K UHD via Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series as of May 19 — though a UK-specific street date and retailer listing hasn’t been confirmed through official channels at the time of writing. Still, the 4K drop alone signals that the franchise is being treated as a living property, not a dusty archive title.
Whether the series ever makes it to a streamer — UK or otherwise — is still anyone’s guess. The horror TV landscape is crowded right now, and “some heat” is a long way from a greenlight. Ginger Snaps still has no series order, no platform, and no confirmed writer attached since Ssemuyaba was first announced six years ago.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Ginger Snaps as the project develops.
