X-Men ’97 Producer Larry Houston Pushes for Five Seasons

LOS ANGELES — July 16, 2026 — Executive producer Larry Houston says he is pushing Marvel to keep “X-Men ’97” running for at least five seasons, matching the length of the original 1990s cartoon he directed.

TL;DR

  • Larry Houston, executive producer on “X-Men ’97,” says he is “pushing for five” seasons.
  • Marvel has verbally confirmed four seasons of the animated Disney+ series so far.
  • Co-producers Eric and Julia Lewald say Marvel animation chief Brad Winderbaum wants as many as 10 seasons.
  • Season two premiered July one on Disney+, with the remaining episodes rolling out weekly through Aug. 12.

Houston’s comments add fuel to growing fan speculation about how long Marvel plans to keep its Emmy-nominated revival alive, and they suggest the studio’s ambitions may already be outpacing early expectations for the show.

Producer Confirms Push For Five Seasons

“Well, I know they’re going to try and match, you know, I did five seasons [of the original series],” said Larry Houston, according to POC Culture. “I’m going to try at least do five. That seems to be the goal.”

Houston, who directed the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” from 1992 to 1997, now serves as an executive producer on the revival alongside original writers Eric and Julia Lewald.

He added that Marvel has “at least” verbally confirmed a fourth season already.

“I’m pushing for five,” Houston said.

Marvel Eyes An Even Longer Run

Eric Lewald went further in the same set of interviews, pointing to Marvel Television and Animation head Brad Winderbaum’s larger ambitions for the franchise.

“Brad’s bursting up and down, and you know he wants to do 10, and we want him to do 10,” Lewald said.

Lewald said he hopes the team will still be discussing new seasons eight years from now, citing the six decades of X-Men comics available to adapt.

Winderbaum himself has separately said he hopes the show runs “at least five seasons,” matching the original series.
