The Mummy 4 Cast: Who’s Returning for the O’Connells’ Comeback
Brendan Fraser said reuniting with the franchise felt like “seeing an old friend again” as filming began.
NEED TO KNOW
- Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell; filming began September 7, 2026, with release set for October 15, 2027.
- Weisz has not played Evelyn since 2001; Maria Bello replaced her in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
- Fraser, 57, told Canal+ he did “a lot of physical preparation” but will leave the heaviest stunts to the professionals.
Brendan Fraser was at the Deauville American Film Festival on September 6, 2026, when he gave fans the news they had waited years to hear. Speaking to Canal+, he said, “We start Monday morning.”
That Monday, September 7, marked the start of production on The Mummy 4. Fraser had to leave the festival, where he was honored with the Deauville Talent Award, to report for work.
The sequel reunites him with Weisz as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell. It picks up after 2001’s The Mummy Returns, according to reports, and is expected to ignore Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Universal has scheduled the film for October 15, 2027. Here’s everything to know about the Mummy 4 cast, who has been confirmed, and who is reportedly returning.
Brendan Fraser confirmed filming would start “Monday morning”
Fraser made the announcement in French during his Canal+ interview, according to a report by The Express Tribune. He said he had to leave Deauville because he was due on set.
He is also an executive producer, alongside Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart, according to Gore Culture.
Fraser has not played Rick since Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. He said he had done “a lot of physical preparation” for the return but planned to leave the heaviest stunt work to the stunt team.
Rachel Weisz returned as Evelyn after 25 years
Weisz plays Evelyn O’Connell, a librarian and Egyptologist, for the first time since The Mummy Returns. She did not appear in the 2008 sequel, and Maria Bello took over the role.
Weisz was recently spotted filming The Mummy 4 on the streets of London, according to MovieWeb.
Part of the production is shooting at Sky Studios in London, according to Cosmic Book News. The film will also shoot in Morocco.
John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor joined the reunion
John Hannah is set to return as Evelyn’s brother, Jonathan Carnahan. Oded Fehr is reported to reprise Ardeth Bay, the Medjai warrior. Kevin J. O’Connor is reported to return as Beni Gabor.
Hannah’s return was reported by Gore Culture alongside Fraser and Weisz. Fehr and O’Connor have been reported by outlets including CBR, which said their returns are “believed” rather than officially confirmed.
Michael Johnston is reportedly in talks to join the sequel’s cast.
Arnold Vosloo was reported to rise again as Imhotep
MovieWeb reported that Arnold Vosloo will return as Imhotep, the high priest who is the franchise’s central villain. Imhotep did not appear in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Other outlets say Imhotep’s return remains unconfirmed and that exact continuity is unclear. No official statement from Universal has addressed his role.
Alex O’Connell, Rick and Evelyn’s son, is also expected to feature, according to MovieWeb. Freddie Boath played Alex as a child in 2001, and Luke Ford played him as an adult in 2008. No casting has been announced.
Radio Silence took over behind the camera
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, known for Scream and Ready or Not, are directing. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay.
Original franchise producer Sean Daniel returns, alongside Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein.
The film has been described as a globe-trotting adventure blending action, comedy and supernatural horror, according to CBR.
Universal moved the release up to October 2027
Universal shifted the film from its original date of May 19, 2028, to October 15, 2027. The move places it in the Halloween corridor.
No UK release date has been confirmed.
Tomb of the Dragon Emperor grossed $406 million worldwide against a $145 million budget, making it the lowest-grossing film in the trilogy, according to Wikipedia.
Fraser summed up the reunion in the Canal+ interview: “It’s like seeing an old friend again.”
