‘V/H/S/Mixtape’ will bring music-themed horror to Shudder on October 9

Shudder has confirmed that V/H/S/Mixtape, the ninth installment in the long-running found-footage anthology franchise, will premiere on the streamer on October 9, 2026, according to Variety.

So, the found-footage franchise is doing something a little different this time. Rather than a loose grab-bag of segments, V/H/S/Mixtape is built around a single idea: music, rhythm, and sound as the source of the horror. According to the official press release reported by Dread Central, the film promises to blend cosmic horror, psychological suspense, and “outrageous splatter” into what Shudder is calling a mixtape of nightmares.

Who’s behind the camera

The lineup is stacked. Segments come from Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists), David Moreau (MadS), and Renee Zhan (O Black Hole!), whose segment reportedly includes original puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, per Blabbermouth.

Musician-director Flying Lotus (Ash) contributes music-video interludes throughout, while Tobias Forge, frontman of the band Ghost, makes his directing debut on one of the film’s music videos. Heavy metal legends GWAR also show up for a featured appearance, which feels less like stunt casting and more like the whole point of the exercise.

Producers and pedigree

Producers on the project include Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin serving as executive producers, according to That Hollywood Show.

V/H/S/Mixtape follows last year’s V/H/S/Halloween, which became the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 across Shudder and AMC+, driving the platform’s biggest acquisition weekend of the year — a bar this one will have to clear.

Shudder does operate in the UK, where the service runs about £4.99 a month or roughly £47.88 annually, per Capital Matters. UK horror fans won’t need a separate release date — the October 9 premiere is a simultaneous global drop on the platform.
