Netflix officially unveiled the title for the third season of its live-action One Piece series on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The streamer also announced a first-ever LEGO animated special, set to premiere globally this September.
The season is titled One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta and will debut in 2027, created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios.
Season 3 started production three and a half months ahead of the Season 2 premiere. That means fans will wait roughly a year and a half , down from the two and a half years between Seasons 1 and 2.
The Alabasta Arc Comes to Life
In the upcoming season, war is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew. The desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland, is on the brink of collapse.
A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart. It is fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works.
The Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand.
Netflix Chief Marketing Officer Marian Lee spoke on the announcement. “The passion of the ONE PIECE fandom is unparalleled, spanning generations, they’ve turned our live-action series into a true global phenomenon,” Lee said.
“From the epic high stakes of ONE PIECE: The Battle of Alabasta in 2027 to our first-ever LEGO animated special this September, we are building a universe where every fan can find their place in the Straw Hat crew,” Lee said.
A LEGO Special Sets Sail in September
Netflix also announced a two-part LEGO One Piece animated special. It premieres September 29 and is produced in partnership with the LEGO Group, Shueisha, and Atomic.
The special retells the events of Seasons 1 and 2 of the live-action pirate saga. It does so in a fun, family-friendly LEGO style, mixing comedy, high-stakes thrills, and brick-built action.
The story is framed through the eyes of Usopp, the Straw Hats’ famously unreliable narrator. He regales the crew’s newest recruit, the reindeer-boy Tony Tony Chopper, with exaggerated tales of their epic exploits.
One Piece writer-producer Tom Hyndman serves as the special’s writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
A Universe in Expansion
The announcements mark a significant expansion of Netflix’s One Piece universe. The franchise is based on Japan’s highest-selling manga series of all time by Eiichiro Oda, with over 100 volumes published.
Netflix is also sharing a first-look image from another franchise extension, The One Piece, a previously announced new anime series from WIT Studio. Currently in production in collaboration with Shueisha, Toei Animation, and Fuji Television Network, it reimagines the East Blue saga using advanced visual technology.
Season 2 secured a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and rave reviews from fans, and continues to dominate the cultural conversation and trend globally across social media.
With three distinct extensions now in motion, Netflix is betting heavily on the Straw Hat crew. The question is no longer if One Piece can anchor a franchise, it is how large that franchise can grow.
