Call of Duty movie finally gets official 2028 release date – Taylor Sheridan and Pete Berg drop first-look sizzle at CinemaCon

Paramount Pictures officially confirmed a summer 2028 release date for its long-in-development Call of Duty film adaptation at CinemaCon on 17 April 2026, with director Pete Berg and writer Taylor Sheridan presenting an exclusive first-look sizzle reel to exhibitors in Las Vegas that teased the film’s massive action scope.

Call of Duty is the best-selling video game franchise in history, with over 400 million units sold across all titles according to Activision’s published figures. The announcement at CinemaCon — the film industry’s premier gathering of theater owners — signals that Paramount is treating this as a genuine tentpole release rather than a speculative development announcement.

The pairing of Sheridan and Berg carries significant weight. Sheridan built the Yellowstone universe into one of the most-watched television brands in America, while Berg directed Lone Survivor (2013) and Patriots Day (2016) — both grounded, large-scale military action films that share considerable tonal DNA with the Call of Duty games’ modern warfare settings.

According to Variety, the footage screened at CinemaCon was described by attendees as emphasising a grounded, large-scale military tone rather than the more fantastical direction some earlier concept discussions had suggested.

The Hollywood Reporter noted the presentation drew strong applause from exhibitors, a useful early signal given that theater chains have been selective about which tentpoles they commit significant screen counts to following the post-pandemic box office reset.
