Chase Yi Joins Ian Tuason’s New Paranormal Activity Film
Paramount and Blumhouse Atomic Monster recently locked down a director for the eighth Paranormal Activity. Now, they’ve found their lead!
Chase Yi (Mythic Quest) has landed the starring role in the untitled film,according to Deadline. Ian Tuason (Undertone) is writing and directing. Character and plot details are still under wraps, but given the franchise’s found footage roots, don’t expect that to change.
Oren Peli, who created the series and shot the original 2007 film for $15,000, will produce for his Solana Films. James Wan and Jason Blum are producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, following the studios’ recent merger.
Yi’s resume leans comedy and prestige TV — Hacks, High Potential, and Nathan Fielder‘s The Rehearsal — rather than the usual scream-queen pipeline, which tracks with a franchise that’s always cast relative unknowns over horror veterans. It’s a formula that’s paid off before: the original film’s BBFC 15 rating cited “strong language” and little else, and it still turned a shoestring budget into a franchise that’s grossed over $900 million worldwide.
Tuason previously named the original Paranormal Activity as one of the three films that scares him most, alongside The Exorcist and The Blair Witch Project — a lineage not unlike the found footage revival Lionsgate is banking on with its own franchise relaunch. Found footage horror is clearly having a moment again, and studios are betting on the filmmakers who grew up scared by it.
The film is currently set for a May 21, 2027 theatrical release. We’ll keep you posted on updates about Paranormal Activity as the project develops.
