Don Mancini is Writing AND Directing the Next Chucky Movie — And It’s Going to Theaters
Don Mancini made the announcement fans have been waiting for at Steel City Con in Pennsylvania this past weekend. The franchise creator confirmed he’s currently writing a brand new Chucky movie — and now, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively confirmed he’ll be directing it too.
The new film is being written with a theatrical release in mind, which would mark Chucky’s first time on the big screen in 22 years. Both Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017) went straight to home release, and the three-season Chucky television series on USA and SYFY followed from there.

Curse of Chucky Vibes Only
Mancini has revealed the new film will harken back to the approach of Curse of Chucky, the sixth installment that initially positioned itself as a full-on reboot before firmly connecting itself to previous installments. That entry brought the horror vibes back to the franchise after the campier, more comedic energy of Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. The plan, according to Bloody Disgusting, is to make this one flat-out scary.
The new movie will also connect to the events of the television series and previous films — Mancini is big on continuity, with all of his movies and the show existing in an impressively connected single timeline. So don’t expect a hard reboot. Expect a reset that remembers everything.
Jennifer Tilly recently told Entertainment Tonight that “more Chucky and Tiffany are on the way,” which lines up neatly with all of this. In February 2026, Tilly also confirmed she would reprise her role as Tiffany in any future installments.
The new script would bring the franchise to nine total films — eight within the Don Mancini Chucky Universe, with that 2019 remake quietly existing in its own corner, alone, as it should be.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Chucky as the project develops.
