Too Hot To Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II Finally Wraps After Eight Years in Production
British filmmakers Anthony and Claire Bueno have officially wrapped production on their long-running Ghostbusters II documentary. Eight years is a long time to wait for anything — but for fans of the 1989 sequel, it sounds like it was worth it.
According to an exclusive report by Deadline, the film — titled Too Hot To Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II — completed its production journey on Ghostbusters Day, June 8, 2026.
The documentary serves as a follow-up to the Buenos’ 2019 film Cleanin’ Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters and features interviews with Dan Aykroyd, the late Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, the late director Ivan Reitman, and ILM visual effects legend Dennis Muren. That is a genuinely stacked lineup.
Anthony Bueno said of the project, according to Ghostbusters News: “It’s been an honour and a privilege to capture these interviews and finally be able to present them all to the world. I’m incredibly proud of the work that we have all put into these documentaries. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but with the skills and talents of all involved, we can finally show Too Hot To Handle to the fans of the Ghostbusters films and filmmaking alike.”
Eight years. One documentary. That’s how much these two care about getting it right.
Too Hot To Handle Has a Bumpy Film to Document
Ghostbusters II itself had a notoriously difficult road to screen. Production was reportedly rushed, large sections of the film were scrapped after poorly received test screenings, and re-shoots took place just months before its 1989 release. There is no shortage of material to work with, in other words.
Despite mixed reviews, the film grossed $215M worldwide on a $30–40M budget. Sony apparently wasn’t thrilled at the time, and the franchise went dormant for years before recent reboots brought it back.
The Buenos’ production was further delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and health complications — which goes a long way toward explaining that eight-year timeline.

Alas, two major interviewees — Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman — are no longer here to see it released.
Score, Sales, and a UK Connection
Composer Randy Edelman, who scored the original Ghostbusters II, has contributed a new score for the documentary. Edelman is also bringing his live music show to the UK this month, and it will include extracts from that score — making this something of a dual celebration for British fans.
Edelman said of the project: “I believe all those who will view this film will appreciate it and its subject matter in a welcoming, graceful way. And those who were part of it originally who aren’t fortunate enough to be on this earth to see it, they would be incredibly proud of the diligence, thoughtfulness, and power of these two — a team of a sister and brother from England — who against the odds of traditional Hollywood brought this doc to the screen.”
On the distribution side, Laurence Gornall‘s Unannounced Film Company has boarded world rights. Unannounced previously handled Cleanin’ Up The Town, which performed well on the Amazon special interest video chart in 2020 and the US iTunes chart in 2021.

The Buenos are aiming to officially launch Too Hot To Handle at a festival or market this fall. Briefledger readers with a soft spot for Ghostbusters II — and honestly, who doesn’t have one — should keep an eye out. In the meantime, you can catch up on the Ghostbusters: Night Shift Netflix animated series announcement while you wait.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Too Hot To Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II as the project develops.
