Warrior Cats Animated Series Lands at Disney+ and Disney Channel for 2028 | Brief Ledger

Disney Kids & Family has secured the animated rights to Warrior Cats, the British-born feline fantasy phenomenon, bringing it to Disney+ and Disney Channel with a 2028 premiere date and Ms. Marvel’s A.C. Bradley as showrunner.

TL;DR
  • Disney Kids & Family and UK-based Coolabi Group have struck a deal to bring Warrior Cats to Disney+ and Disney Channel.
  • The animated series is set to premiere in 2028 and will adapt the first book arc, The Prophecies Begin.
  • Ms. Marvel and What If? showrunner A.C. Bradley leads the production; Emmy winner Rodrigo Blaas directs.
  • Warrior Cats was created by UK company Working Partners — a Coolabi Group company — and has sold over 90 million copies worldwide.

The deal marks the first authorized animation of the franchise and is co-produced alongside China’s Tencent Video, which will carry the series on its own platforms across China and South-East Asia.

Announced on June 18, 2026, at the Annecy Film Festival, the news sent the franchise’s famously devoted fanbase into a frenzy online — and for good reason.

Warrior Cats is a publishing giant. The series has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for 20 consecutive years and generated nearly 3 billion views of fan-made content on TikTok alone.

“We’re always seeking out fresh, imaginative storytelling that resonates with families around the world. Warrior Cats has inspired a generation of fans, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Coolabi Group to bring this phenomenal series to life on Disney+ and Disney Channel,”

— Ayo Davis, President, Disney Kids & Family

A UK Property Goes Global

Warrior Cats was created by Working Partners, a London-based Coolabi Group company, under the collective pen name Erin Hunter — making it a proudly British IP now getting the full Disney treatment.

The book series first launched in 2003 and follows rival clans of wild cats navigating survival, loyalty, and ancient prophecy in the British countryside and beyond.

Allison Watkins, EVP at Coolabi Group, said the partnership had been a long time coming.

“Following our development deal with Tencent Video in 2024, we have been working hard to find the perfect home for Warrior Cats. We couldn’t be more thrilled that Disney has come on board the project, and we look forward to delivering a truly exciting new series to Warrior Cats fans across the globe.”

Behind the Camera

A.C. Bradley, whose credits include Ms. Marvel, What If?, and Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters, will serve as showrunner and lead creative on the new series.

Directing duties fall to Emmy Award-winner Rodrigo Blaas, whose impressive résumé spans Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Wall-E.

Animation studio Original Force — a global leader in CG and game content creation — will produce the series on behalf of Tencent Video, in collaboration with El Guiri Studios.

Which Story Will It Tell?

The series will adapt the first arc of books, Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin, following a domestic house cat named Rusty who joins a clan of wild cats and begins his journey to become a warrior.

It is the second collaboration Disney has undertaken with El Guiri Studios, following the acclaimed Star Wars: Visions episode “Sith.”

The Brand Beyond the Books

The franchise numbers are staggering: over 90 million books sold in 38 languages, more than 2 million annual visitors to the official website, and 50 million YouTube views per month from user-generated content.

A fan-made Roblox game based on the series has racked up 735 million plays, underlining the white-hot engagement of its young audience.

Will Harrison, CEO of Coolabi Group, said: “Disney is the perfect partner for such a hugely loved brand, and we look forward to expanding the fanbase further both in the U.S. and globally when the series hits the small screen.”

UK Fans: What We Know

While Disney has not yet confirmed region-specific premiere dates, UK fans can expect the series to land on Disney+ in the United Kingdom — the same platform currently home to fellow Disney Kids & Family titles like Bluey and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Given its British origins and the Coolabi Group’s London base, the series carries strong UK talent and creative DNA at every level of its production.

A premiere window of 2028 has been confirmed globally, with further casting and episode details expected to follow.
