Marvel’s Wolverine Trailer Confirms PS5 Release September 15
PlayStation and Insomniac Games have dropped a new cinematic trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, titled “Ain’t No Hero,” giving fans their clearest look yet at Logan’s original story ahead of its launch this fall. The roughly 90-second teaser leans entirely on cinematics rather than gameplay, and it lands with the confirmed release date just two months away. If you’ve been following Insomniac’s gaming output since the Spider-Man series, this is the studio’s next big swing at a Marvel property.
What the Trailer Reveals
The trailer opens with a brooding voiceover from Logan reflecting on how long he’s lived and how his memories have started to blur together. From there it cuts between him being pinned down by enemies in the snow and rescued by Sabretooth, his long-time rival-turned-uneasy-ally, before introducing Lady Deathstrike for the first time. She’s shown clashing with Logan alongside a group of red-clad enemies that some outlets have identified as the Hand, distinct from the Reavers, the cybernetic mercenary group working for the trailer’s central villain, Bolivar Trask.

Creative director Marcus Smith has previously explained that this version of the story removes the X-Men entirely, instead building around Team X, the black-ops mutant unit Logan rejoins after walking away from it three years earlier. Director Mike Daly has said the goal was to keep the story centred on Logan while still bringing in familiar faces to support it. The photograph Logan carries through the trailer, of himself and a red-haired woman believed to be Jean Grey, suggests that relationship will anchor much of the narrative.
Fans have compared the looming Deathstrike showdown to the Wolverine-versus-Deathstrike fight in 2003’s X2, where Hugh Jackman‘s Logan faced off against Kelly Hu’s version of the character. It remains to be seen how Insomniac’s take will differ, since the studio has reworked several characters’ backstories for this world.

Release Date, Price, and Pre-Order Bonuses
Marvel’s Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026. It’s a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure title, and it is not open world. Pre-orders are live now:
- Standard Edition — $69.99, includes early unlocks for the Classic Brown Suit and Reflective Claws, an extra Technique Point, and four PlayStation Avatars
- Digital Deluxe Edition — $79.99, adds five exclusive suits, five exclusive claw styles, and additional Technique Points on top of all pre-order bonuses
Reportedly, physical copies will also be available at launch, with Insomniac confirming a disc release despite broader industry uncertainty around PS5 physical media, a topic covered in our report on Sony’s plans to phase out PlayStation discs by 2028.
Building Out Insomniac’s Marvel Universe
This is Insomniac’s first major original IP under the Marvel Games banner since its Spider-Man trilogy, and it follows the studio’s continued expansion into the wider Marvel and X-Men mythology, a space also being explored in our coverage of X-Men ’97 Season 2. With PlayStation’s San Diego Comic-Con panel for the game scheduled for July 23, more details on story and characters are expected soon.
