Zach Green and Devin O’Rourke recently wrapped their cult indie Foil. Now, the duo has entered production on their sophomore feature — and they’ve brought some excellent company into the woods with them.

Chris Elliott (Scary Movie franchise), Michael Ian Black (Wet Hot American Summer), Sara Tomko (Resident Alien), Oliver Cooper (Project X), and James Duval (Donnie Darko) have entered production on Bad Day for Bigfoot. The film follows a Bigfoot hoax that goes horribly wrong in the middle of an actual Sasquatch hot spot, leading to a chaotic struggle between the hoaxers, investigators, and a supernatural force that defies explanation. So, basically: someone cried wolf, and the wolf showed up.

Green and O’Rourke are directing. The film is produced by Rafi Jacobs of Static Films and Christopher Jennings, co-founder of the Eastern Oregon Film Festival, whose retreat program inspired the shooting location. Elliott also serves as executive producer alongside co-EPs Stephen Mastrocola of Static Films and H. Nelson Tracey.

“I have always been drawn to cryptids and monster lore, and the over-the-top sincerity of 80s and 90s protagonists,” Green told Deadline. “Bad Day for Bigfoot is a love letter to those creature-filled adventure comedies.”

Production is currently shooting in La Grande, Oregon — a location that, according to the filmmakers, may have some Sasquatch activity of its own. UK horror fans keeping tabs on indie creature features should note that no UK release date or streaming platform has been confirmed yet, though a festival run seems likely given the pedigree of the production team. Worth watching.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about Bad Day for Bigfoot as the project develops.
