Kyle Gallner Joins Brie Larson in Sony’s Creature Feature Skeletons

Sony Pictures recently locked down one of the hottest horror packages out of the European Film Market. Now, Kyle Gallner has officially joined Brie Larson in Skeletons, with JT Mollner directing and J.J. Abrams producing.

Skeletons

Skeletons is a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature. Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Love and Monsters) penned the screenplay, adapted from the short story Fail-Safe by Philip Fracassi, with revisions by Mollner.

Gallner’s casting reunites him with Mollner following his acclaimed performance in Strange Darling. If you spent any part of 2024 dragging everyone you know to watch that film, you already know why this matters. His other upcoming genre projects include Man Vs., which he also wrote, and Inground.

Abrams described Duffield’s script as “an absolute powerhouse” and called it “a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying,” according to Bloody Disgusting. High praise from a man who knows his way around a monster movie.

The film is produced by Abrams, Drew Simon, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller through Bad Robot Productions, Infrared, and Assemble Media. Executive producers include Larson, Duffield, Fracassi, and Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen. As first reported by Deadline, Sony outbid Paramount, Warner Bros., and Neon to lock down worldwide rights in a deal landing north of $25 million — which, for a pre-production horror picture, is not a number anyone takes lightly. Sony holds worldwide distribution rights, meaning UK audiences will get a theatrical release via Sony Pictures UK, though no date has been confirmed yet.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about Skeletons as the project develops.
