Hulu confirms Prison Break: Black Creek is now in production

Hulu confirmed this week that its Prison Break spin-off, Prison Break: Black Creek, has begun production, releasing two first-look teasers that introduce Emily Browning as a soldier-turned-corrections officer entering one of America’s deadliest prisons.

TL;DR

  • Hulu released two mini-teasers on Thursday confirming Prison Break: Black Creek is officially filming.
  • Emily Browning stars as Cassidy Collins, a former soldier who takes a job at the fictional Black Creek Penitentiary.
  • Elgin James (Mayans M.C.) writes, executive produces and directed the pilot; original creator Paul Scheuring stays on as an executive producer.
  • No premiere date has been set, though the series is expected on Hulu in the US and via Disney+ internationally, including the UK.

What the first teasers reveal

The two clips are deliberately sparse. One shows a prison room with a metal nightstand, hinting at a tunnel being dug on the other side, according to Comic Basics. The second shows a woman banging on an institutional window, a callback to the franchise’s escape-artist roots.

Rather than someone breaking out, this chapter follows someone choosing to walk in, according to Comic Basics.

The story and cast of Black Creek

Black Creek follows Cassidy Collins, a former soldier who takes a corrections-officer job at one of the country’s most dangerous prisons, determined to prove how far she’ll go for someone she loves. Browning leads the cast, joined by Lukas Gage as Jackson, a politician running his first congressional campaign, and Drake Rodger as Tommy, an inmate serving out a decade-long sentence.

The wider ensemble includes Clayton Cardenas, Myles Bullock, Georgie Flores and JR Bourne, according to Bleeding Cool. Gage described the tone to Variety earlier this year, saying it’s “gritty, and it’s dark, and it’s scary.”

Behind the scenes: Elgin James and the Prison Break legacy

Elgin James, best known for co-creating Mayans M.C., writes and executive produces Black Creek through his Sierra Drive banner, and directed the pilot. Paul Scheuring, who created the original 2005 Fox series, remains attached as an executive producer alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz, according to Comic Basics.

Series leads Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who played brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, are not expected to appear. The new installment is built as a standalone story set in the same universe rather than a direct continuation.

When UK viewers can watch it

No premiere date has been announced. The reboot is being produced for Hulu in the US, but it’s also expected to reach Disney+ internationally, according to CBR — the route through which most Hulu-produced originals, including recent Hulu-to-Disney+ titles, have reached UK subscribers. That would put Black Creek on the same UK platform that carried Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot before its cancellation earlier this year.

  • The original Prison Break ran five seasons on Fox (2005–2017), plus a TV movie and a mobile spin-off. Source: Comic Basics
  • Black Creek’s full ensemble was announced in March 2025, after a pilot order in December 2024. Source: Comic Basics
  • UK viewing is expected via Disney+ rather than a UK-specific broadcaster. Source: CBR

Black Creek arrives as streamers lean on established franchises with new leads rather than reviving original casts — a strategy also playing out in Amazon’s Robocop reboot series, ordered earlier this year. We’ll keep you posted on updates about Prison Break: Black Creek as the project develops.
