How the Kickstarter hit its goal in a day

The creators told backers the project was funded in less than 24 hours, according to a Kickstarter creator update. The target was $15,000, according to Entertainment Now.

Kickstarter then named it a Project We Love on 28 September, which brings extra promotion from the platform, according to a second creator update.

Nerdbot recorded $21,458 that day. Fan funding is turning up elsewhere in entertainment too, such as Magnum Foodus asking fans to fund one last stunt for its finale.

What backers get for $30

The core set covers Rocky, Brad, Janet, Magenta, Riff Raff and Columbia from the 1973 stage production, according to Nerdbot. Dr Frank-N-Furter is a backer-only exclusive.

Actor Tim Curry played Frank-N-Furter in the original 1973 London production, according to Remind Magazine. The Frank-N-Furter prototype has already been approved by licensing, according to Nerdbot.

The other six figures have approved concept art, and prototypes will follow now the goal is met. The first stretch goal added an eighth figure, Eddie. It is unclear whether more will follow.

Each figure costs $30 and a full set costs $200. Lower serial numbers cost more: a set numbered between 26 and 100 is $300, according to Nerdbot.

Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of the museum, said in a press release the figures are “the perfect way for fans” to show their love for the characters. Collectors chasing licensed horror merchandise can also look at Mattel’s Chucky and Liv Morgan action figure two-pack.

Why the Rocky Horror Show matters to UK fans

The Rocky Horror Show is a British story first. It opened at London’s Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in 1973 before an audience of just 63 people, according to Bradford Theatres.

Actor and writer Richard O’Brien called it “one of Britain’s most performed and beloved musicals of all time” in a Shropshire Council newsroom post marking its 50th anniversary.

BriefLedger could not confirm UK shipping costs, and the campaign lists prices in US dollars. UK backers should check the Kickstarter rewards page before pledging.

Another cult British title is also returning this month: Ken Russell’s The Devils arrives in an uncut 4K restoration on 16 October.

When the Kickstarter closes

The campaign runs until Halloween, Saturday 31 October (Central Time), according to Nerdbot. Kicktraq shows pledges still climbing, so the final total may differ from the figures above.

Fans can back the project on the official Kickstarter campaign page.
