American Horror Story' Sets Return Of John Carroll Lynch & Mat Fraser

Mena Suvari, Berto Colón join American Horror Story season 13 cast as production rolls on

American Beauty star Mena Suvari and The Night Agent actor Berto Colón have officially joined the cast of American Horror Story season 13, as production on the FX anthology’s long-awaited return continues in May 2026, with a September premiere now confirmed by creator Ryan Murphy.

TL;DR

  • Mena Suvari and Berto Colón are the latest additions to the AHS season 13 cast, confirmed by Deadline on 20 May 2026.
  • Colón will reportedly play Joe the Doorman, employed by Jessica Lange’s character; Suvari’s role is being kept under wraps.
  • Freak Show veterans John Carroll Lynch and Mat Fraser are also returning as Twisty the Clown and Paul the Illustrated Seal.
  • The season premieres on FX in September 2026, streaming in the UK on Disney+ under its Star brand.

What Deadline revealed

According to Deadline, American Horror Story has added John Carroll Lynch (Ballard), Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Mat Fraser (Gangs of London), and Berto Colón (The Night Agent) for season 13, with production on the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk anthology currently underway.

Lynch and Fraser will reprise their respective roles from AHS: Freak Show — Lynch returning as Twisty the Clown and Fraser as Paul the Illustrated Seal. Sources indicate Colón will play Joe the Doorman, an employee of Jessica Lange’s character. No details have been released regarding Suvari’s role, and both FX and 20th Television declined to comment.

Suvari’s history in the AHS universe

This is not Suvari’s first time in Ryan Murphy’s world of horrors. She previously played Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia, in the AHS universe, and her role for season 13 is currently being kept under wraps.

Suvari is one of a select group of AHS performers to have portrayed the same character across multiple seasons, having appeared as Elizabeth Short in both Murder House and Apocalypse.

Colón, by contrast, is making his debut in the franchise. He is known for prior roles in Orange Is the New Black and Show Me a Hero, and will reportedly be employed by Jessica Lange‘s character as Joe the Doorman, according to the Deadline exclusive.

A Coven reunion takes shape

Season 13 is shaping up to be one of the most expansive casts in the show’s history. The newly confirmed quartet joins the previously announced ensemble that includes Ariana Grande, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, John Waters, and Leslie Grossman.

FX has teased that the new season will revisit several iconic chapters of the franchise, with the network asking fans to “light your candles, draw your pentagrams, and prepare for a supreme surprise.” Emma Roberts and Sarah Paulson are confirmed to reprise their Coven characters Madison Montgomery and Cordelia Goode.

Ryan Murphy confirmed in an Instagram post in April 2026 that the season will feature a return to Miss Robichaux’s Academy, stating that the entire Robichaux Academy set has been rebuilt for this instalment.
