Walls first came to wider attention on the long-running American drama Friday Night Lights. He went on to star in the Peacock limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist alongside Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, and Don Cheadle.

On the film side, Walls led the Hulu remake of White Men Can’t Jump, opposite Jack Harlow, and appeared in the Netflix hit Carry-On as the best friend to Taron Egerton’s TSA agent, as well as the horror comedy The Blackening.

The role is being kept “in a lead-lined safe”

DC Studios declined to comment on his casting. The character details are being kept in a lead-lined safe, according to DC Film News.

Speculation online has ranged widely. Many fans are already suggesting Walls could be playing a new DCU version of Cyborg, while others point to the phrase “lead-lined safe” as a hint that he could be portraying John Henry Irons — better known as Steel — a character whose powers include a suit of armour that mirrors Superman’s.

What we know about Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn returns as writer and director. The film sees David Corenswet’s Superman joining forces with his arch nemesis, Lex Luthor — played by Nicholas Hoult — to face down the supervillain Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.

Gunn described the film’s premise as a story about “Clark and Lex”, saying he relates to both characters — Luthor’s ambition and Superman’s belief in people and Midwestern values.

Returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Aaron Pierre, who plays Green Lantern John Stewart in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, will also appear.

Other new cast members joining in undisclosed roles include Adria Arjona, Andre Royo, and Matthew Lillard.

UK connection: filming and release

Filming began in April 2026, taking place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in the United Kingdom and Cincinnati, Ohio, and will last until mid-2026. That UK leg of production makes Man of Tomorrow one of the few major superhero films of 2027 to have domestic shooting ties — and gives British crew and talent a direct stake in the production.

The film does not yet have a confirmed UK-specific release date, but the US release is set for 9 July 2027 via Warner Bros. Pictures. A same-day or near-simultaneous UK cinema release is standard practice for Warner Bros. titles.

Walls joins a growing ensemble

Production on Man of Tomorrow is, according to director James Gunn, going “beautifully and unstintingly”, with new cast additions continuing to surface as filming progresses.

The film follows the success of 2025’s Superman, which grossed over $618 million worldwide and earned strong critical and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

This is a fast-expanding ensemble. For more on how DC’s big-screen slate is shaping up ahead of Man of Tomorrow, read our coverage of The Batman: Part II casting developments and check the latest on this summer’s Mortal Kombat II box office performance.
