Greta Gerwig's Narnia

Greta Gerwig’s Narnia trailer debuts with Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven

Netflix released the first trailer for director Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew on October 13 at a New York IMAX event, with the film opening in theaters February 12, 2027.

TL;DR

  • Netflix debuted the first Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew trailer on October 13.
  • The footage is scored with Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” a song its writers rarely license for screen use.
  • The film opens in theaters and IMAX on February 12, 2027, then streams on Netflix on April 2.

What the Narnia trailer shows

Gerwig’s adaptation of the C.S. Lewis prequel stars newcomers David McKenna as Digory and Beatrice Campbell as Polly. Daniel Craig plays Uncle Andrew, and Emma Mackey plays the metallic-clad White Witch, Jadis.

Meryl Streep voices a singing Aslan. The visuals mix intimate moments with psychedelic spectacle.

How Gerwig won over Led Zeppelin

Rolling Stone reported that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page routinely turn down requests to use “Stairway to Heaven” onscreen, including one from Cameron Crowe for Almost Famous. They agreed for Gerwig.

Gerwig said the pair are fans of Lewis and his Narnia books. “They saw the heart and the story and the drama in it,” she said.

She spoke at a Manhattan screening, where, according to IndieWire, she addressed an IMAX theater of reporters before the trailer went online.

Narnia release date and UK viewing details

UK audiences could watch the trailer from 7 p.m. BST on Tuesday, according to What’s on Netflix. British stars Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan are among the cast.

The poster carries the tagline “A Universe Begins” and an IMAX credit, which signals a full theatrical push. The film reaches Netflix on April 2, 2027.

Netflix is also lining up other big fantasy and family titles, including live-action Scooby-Doo Origins and Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn.

Fantasy fans have plenty to track, from this film to HBO’s Harry Potter series heading into season two.
