Hulu casts Isabela Merced and Patrick Schwarzenegger as the Bobbitts in Good American Family

Hulu has cast actors Isabela Merced and Patrick Schwarzenegger as Lorena and John Bobbitt in the second season of true-crime anthology Good American Family, Deadline reported on Monday, revisiting the 1993 Virginia case.

TL;DR

• Merced will play Lorena Bobbitt and Schwarzenegger will play John Bobbitt in season two.
• The story covers the 1993 case that ended in two separate acquittals.
• Lorena Bobbitt is reportedly a consultant on the series.
• UK viewers can expect it on Disney+, but no date has been announced.

What Hulu has announced

Merced, known for playing Dina in The Last of Us, will play Lorena Bobbitt, according to TVLine. Schwarzenegger, who appeared in The White Lotus, will play her then-husband John Bobbitt.

Katie Robbins, creator of season one, returns as creator and writer, according to Dark Horizons. Actor Ellen Pompeo executive produces again.

Hulu renewed the series as an anthology after season one told the story of Natalia Grace. Lorena Bobbitt will reportedly serve as a consultant, according to TV Insider.

The 1993 case behind season two

Lorena Bobbitt alleged that her husband abused and raped her. John Bobbitt has denied the allegations and was acquitted of marital sexual assault in 1993, according to NBC Chicago.

Lorena Bobbitt was charged with malicious wounding. Both Bobbitts were acquitted, according to Law&Crime, and she was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity in January 1994.

Her defence team argued she was the victim of long-term physical and emotional abuse, according to Oprah.com. The case also sparked a media frenzy in the US, according to Khaleej Times.

Why the casting matters now

The casting is the first concrete sign of how the anthology will handle a story that dominated headlines for months. Having Lorena Bobbitt involved as a consultant suggests the series will put her account at the centre.

It lands amid a run of true-crime casting, including Melissa Joan Hart playing black widow killer Judy Buenoano in a Lifetime movie. Hulu has not announced a premiere date for season two, according to TV Insider.

Where UK viewers can watch

Season one of Good American Family reached UK viewers on Disney+ on 7 May 2025, according to Hello. Hulu titles typically land on the platform in the UK, though no UK date has been confirmed for season two.

Also on Hulu: Prison Break: Black Creek is now in production.
