Inside The Greatest

Billed as an intimate look at the boxing champion, humanitarian and global icon, the series follows Ali’s path from Louisville newcomer to one of the most influential athletes in history, according to Deadline. Best leads the cast as Cassius Clay and Ali, with Omari Hardwick and Gourrier playing his parents, Amin Joseph as rival Sonny Liston, and Michael Ealy in a recurring role as Malcolm X.

Watkins, who also directs the first two episodes, said the show is designed to reveal “all the stuff that wasn’t in documentaries.” Season one spans 1960 to 1964, tracking Ali’s Olympic gold medal win through his first heavyweight title.

The Greatest is the first scripted project authorized by the Ali estate. Watkins produces via Blue Monday Productions, alongside Jordan’s Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment and Grace: A Storytelling Company.

UK viewers and how to watch

UK audiences will be able to stream The Greatest on Prime Video as part of a standard Amazon Prime membership, which currently costs £8.99 a month following a 30-day free trial, according to Amazon’s UK site. No separate rental or purchase has been announced for the series.

Jordan builds out his Prime Video slate

The trailer lands as Jordan expands his footprint at Amazon MGM Studios. Beyond The Greatest, his Outlier Society banner is developing Delphi, a Creed spinoff set at the gym that trained Apollo and Adonis Creed, and a television adaptation of the fantasy novel Fourth Wing, according to CBR. Neither of those projects has begun production.

The Greatest premieres Wednesday, November 4, exclusively on Prime Video.
