What Druckmann said about the new projects
Druckmann wrote in a Naughty Dog blog post that both projects will “expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II”.
He did not confirm whether either project is a video game, according to Gematsu.
The studio has discussed telling more stories since the Grounded II documentary, Druckmann said. Naughty Dog would not return without “something meaningful to say”, he added, according to DualShockers.
Why the announcement matters now
It is the first time Naughty Dog has explicitly confirmed more Last of Us content, DualShockers reported. The news arrives six years after The Last of Us Part II launched on PlayStation 4 in June 2020.
Fans have speculated about a third game, according to Beebom. Neither project has been named or described, and Naughty Dog will stay quiet for the rest of 2026.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet gets a 2027 reveal
Druckmann said in the same post that Naughty Dog will fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in 2027. He described it as the studio’s most ambitious game to date.
The sci-fi title stars Tati Gabrielle as bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who is stranded on the planet Sempiria, according to Stevivor.
What it means for UK viewers of HBO’s series
In the UK, HBO’s The Last of Us streams on Sky Atlantic and NOW, according to Sky. British actor Bella Ramsey plays Ellie in the adaptation.
Season three is filming, and HBO boss Casey Bloys has pointed to a 2027 release, according to GamesRadar. No UK date has been announced.
Peter Sarsgaard has joined season three as Seraphite leader Amon, as we reported. Druckmann stepped away from showrunning duties after season two, according to This Week in Videogames.
The announcement also lands as Britain’s video games market hits a record £8.76bn.
