Who stars in Coogler’s The X-Files reboot

The show follows two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond. They are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to unexplained phenomena.

Deadwyler and Patel play new characters rather than versions of Mulder and Scully. Patel confirmed the pilot had wrapped filming over the summer.

Coogler wrote and directed the pilot. He said he has “loved The X-Files for a long time,” as Dread Central reported, citing Deadline.

The pilot’s guest cast includes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs and Lochlyn Munro, according to Laughing Place. Madigan is a recent Academy Award winner for Weapons. Their roles have not been revealed.

Jennifer Yale is showrunner. Original creator Chris Carter is a non-writing executive producer alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media.

Why the Hulu pickup matters now

Of course, Hulu has been here before. The streamer passed on its Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival after filming a pilot, and some fans feared a repeat, according to Laughing Place.

This time the answer was yes. The original The X-Files ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, then returned for two more from 2016 to 2018.

The order also fits a busy stretch for the platform, which has its Prison Break follow-up in production too.

When can UK viewers watch The X-Files reboot

Hulu has not announced a premiere date or episode count, so there is no UK release date yet. The announcement says the series will stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

In the UK, Hulu originals sit under the Hulu tile in the Disney+ app, according to the Disney+ UK subscription page. Plans cost £5.99 a month with ads, £9.99 for Standard and £14.99 for Premium.
